HANDS-ON INTERACTION WITH SOUTH AFRICAN SCHOOLS AND TEACHERS


The group will have opportunities to experience the education system in South Africa on regional- and local school level. While you interact you are in a position to share knowledge, skills, and free resources with SA teachers. One of our main focus areas is to establish meaningful relationships between SA schools and students – with schools and students in your overseas countries.


JOHANNESBURG AND MONGENA GAME LODGE


You will fly into Johannesburg, the economic hustle and bustle capital of South Africa. Discover the origins of all humans at the Cradle of Humankind before you spend two days at Mongena Game Lodge. Your journey will also leads you to Soweto, the Apartheid Museum and Freedom Park.

 

  • The Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site is one of eight in the country. It's the world's richest hominin site, home to around 40% of the world's human ancestor fossils.
  • The 4-star Mongena Game Lodge offers a Big 5 bush safari and is a favorite for local and international guests who wish to see the Big 5 on a Game Drive or bush walk.
  • The Apartheid Museum opened in 2001 and is acknowledged as the pre-eminent museum in the world dealing with 20th century South Africa, at the heart of which is the apartheid story.

Arrive at OR Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg. Morning:  Visit the Sterkfontein Caves and the Cradle of Humankind, Krugersdorp. Afternoon: Maropeng Exhibition Site. Lunch and dinner included. Accommodation: Maropeng Hotel

DAY 2 – WEDNESDAY 25 JULY 2018

Breakfast: Maropeng Hotel. Morning: Apartheids Museum, Johannesburg. Afternoon: Freedom Park, Tshwane/Pretoria. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included. Accommodation: Bakubung Lodge, Pilanesberg.

DAY 3 – THURSDAY 26 JULY 2018

Early morning Game Drive Pilanesberg. Breakfast: Bakubung Lodge. Visit to Sun City Holiday resort. Afternoon relax. Afternoon Game Drive Pilanesberg Game Reserve. Dinner: Boma Braai (BBQ) under the African stars. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included. Accommodation: Bakubung Lodge, Pilanesberg.

DAY 4 – FRIDAY 27 JULY 2018

Breakfast: Bakubung Lodge. Morning:  Soweto Tour. Lunch: Robbies. Afternoon: OR Tambo Airport. Fly to Cape Town. Supper: On the airport – for your own account. Only breakfast and lunch included. Accommodation: Guest House Paarl

DAY 5 – SATURDAY 28 JULY 2018

Breakfast: Guest House Paarl. Morning: District 6 Museum in Cape Town. Mary Burton. Boat to Robben Island. Evening: Gold Restaurant. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included. Accommodation: Paarl Guest House

 DAY 6 – SUNDAY 29 JULY 2018

Breakfast: MV Guest House. Morning: Table Mountain, Simons Town, Penguins, Boulders. Afternoon: Cape Point, Evening: Traditional Braai at MV Guest House. (only breakfast and supper included)

DAY 7 – MONDAY 30 JULY 2018

Orientation and start of the project at central venue

School placements and project work (2 x teachers per school)

Introductions and orientation at local school

DAY 8 – TUESDAY 31 JULY 2018

Afternoon visit Drakenstein Prison where Nelson Mandela stayed for the last nine years of his life and the place where he was released in 1990.
