This tour is designed to give you an amazing opportunity to experience the best of South Africa with a women-only group. A fulltime woman tour director will accompany this tour. These all-female adventures are especially catered for women and they provide special insights into the life of women in the South African culture.

On this 12-day/11-night tour you will spend five days in and around Cape Town. With so much to see and do, everyone should visit Cape Town at least once in a lifetime. This city has consistently been voted as a top destination for leisure. Boasting the perfect balance of scenery, activities, attractions, diverse accommodation and a bustling nightlife, Cape Town has something for everyone to enjoy. Discover Table Mountain, explore the most southwestern point of Africa at Cape Point, visit Nelson Mandela’s cell on Robben Island and enjoy the quirky penguins at Simon’s Town.

The Cape Winelands offer a special treat of great wine-tastings, interesting architecture and some of the most exquisite nature scenery in the country.

The rest of the tour includes a two-day safari at Mongena Lodge, where you may get close to the Big 5, a visit to the Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg, The Cradle of Humankind and a vibrant sightseeing tour of Soweto. Evenings around the boma fire, as you look at the stars… you will know “Africa has become part of me!”

Itinerary

TUESDAY DAY 1

We welcome you with open arms and friendly smiles at Cape Town International airport. Welcome to South Africa! We will transport you to your hotel where you have the rest of the day free to explore the surrounding areas by foot or by taxi. Take time to rest and prepare for the next few days full of new activities.

WEDNESDAY DAY 2

Breakfast at your hotel. We leave the city and drive to Hout Bay and then on to Simon’s Town via Chapman’s Peak Drive, where you will have time to visit the African Jackass Penguins. (Penguin Colony – the Boulders Simon’s Town). You may be interested take a swim in the Ocean!

Lunch   After lunch we visit the Cape Point Nature Reserve, which includes beautiful sites such as the Cape Point Light House and the Cape of Good Hope.

Supper: Evening free. Go out on your own for supper at the V&A Waterfront.

THURSDAY DAY 3

Today we take the boat to Robben Island. It will be an emotional day since you will “experience” the atrocities of the previous Apartheid system of the Nationalist Government and the role that leaders like Nelson Mandela played to fight for the freedom of the South African people. We explore the island and join an ex-political prisoner that will show the group the former maximum-security prison and the tiny cell where Nelson Mandela spent his years of incarceration.

Lunch will be with Odwa Futshane (tour guide) at  Lelapa, a traditional restaurant in Langa. After lunch our guide will take us on a very insightful walking tour of the Langa township. You will get the opportunity to meet the people who live there and have a cappuccino in the first coffee shop in a black township.

FRIDAY DAY 4

Breakfast at your hotel

You have the morning and afternoon free to explore Cape Town and the V&A Waterfront on your own. There are so many options. One of the exciting possibilities is to take the Hop On Hop Off bus and visit famous Cape Town attractions.

Lunch (own account)  Evening: Pan-African cultural experience at GOLD Restaurant and an opportunity to learn to play the African drum.

SATURDAY DAY 5

After breakfast at your hotel we leave for Table Mountain and take the Cable Car (vernacular) to the top of the mountain and back. You will have at least an hour to breathe in the beautiful views and explore the hiking trails on top of the mountain.

Then it is time to visit the African Craft and Gift market at Greenmarket Square, where you can meet artists from different parts of Africa.

This afternoon we explore the world famous botanical gardens, Kirstenbosch, and Groot Constantia,   the very first wine farm in the Cape.

SUNDAY DAY 6

Breakfast at your guest house.

Today the group will explore one of the most beautiful regions in South Africa, namely the Cape Winelands. We will stop in the town of Franschhoek where you will get the opportunity to see the vineyards and visit the wine farms with the Franschhoek Wine Tram. This is truly a very exciting experience!

Our next stop is at the second oldest town in South Africa, Stellenbosch, where we learn more about the history and taste some of the best wines of the region.

MONDAY DAY 7

Today’s journey takes us to the famous area of the West Coast of the Cape. Travel to Langebaan via !Khwa ttu Heritage Centre and enter the fascinating world of the First People in South Africa, the San. Lunch in Langebaan (own account)

Afternoon: Explore Langebaan. Langebaan is an internationally acclaimed Ramsar Site for its importance as a wetland and the tidal mud flats of the lagoon, which not only hosts many local bird species, but also attracts migratory birds every year.

TUESDAY DAY 8

Today we leave Cape Town and make our way to Johannesburg. Our flight leaves at 11:00 from Cape Town International to O R Tambo Johannesburg.  When we arrive in Johannesburg, we make our way to Nkosi’s Haven, an orphanage for children whose parents died from HIV/AIDS. Lunch at Nkosi’s Haven. Meeting with Gail Johnson, founder and director of the orphanage. Interacting with the children at Nkosi’s Haven. Drive to your hotel at the Cradle of Humankind.

WEDNESDAY DAY 9

Breakfast at your lodge.  After breakfast we visit the Cradle of Humankind Museum and the Sterkfontein Caves

Lunch: Robby’s Restaurant in Soweto. Soweto is a township of the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality in Gauteng, South Africa, bordering the city’s mining belt in the south. Its name is an English syllabic abbreviation for South Western Townships.

During the afternoon we do a Soweto tour with our famous tour guide Queen Malefane.  We will stop at Regina Mundi Church, Hector Peterson Museum, visit Vilakazi Street where Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu once lived and the FNB soccer stadium where the finals of the 2010 Soccer World Cup were played.

THURSDAY DAY 10

Today we take time to visit the Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg. The museum opened in 2001 and is acknowledged as the pre-eminent museum in the world dealing with 20th century South Africa, at the heart of which is the Apartheid story.

Afterwards we make our way to the Mongena Game Lodge OR SIMILAR where we will be staying for two nights. Lunch. High Tea

Afternoon Game Drive at Mongena Lodge. The 4-star Lodge offers a Big 5 bush safari and is a favorite for local and international guests who wish to see the Big 5 on a Game Drive or bush walk

FRIDAY DAY 11

Breakfast Mongena Game Lodge OR SIMILAR. Morning Game Drive. Mid-morning Bush Walks (optional). Lunch. Relax around the pool. High Tea. Afternoon Game Drive

Supper Boma Braai. You are invited to sit around the fire and enjoy the atmosphere of a real South Africa BBQ (braai)

SATURDAY DAY 12

Early Morning Game Drive. Breakfast at Mongena Lodge. Check out. The group visits the Union Buildings in Tshwane. The Union Buildings form the official seat of the South African government and house the offices of the President of South Africa. We explore the nine-meter-high statue of Nelson Mandela (short stop)

Lunch. Our group conclude the South African Tour with a visit to Freedom Park in Pretoria. Freedom Park celebrates South Africa’s heritage. It is a center of knowledge aimed at deepening the understanding of the nation. It strives to accommodate all the country’s experiences and symbols to tell one coherent story.

We have to say our final goodbyes and wish you all a very safe journey with high hopes that you will return soon. We drop you off at O R Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg at 16:00.
