This tour offers you the best of the Garden Route via Route 62. Along the South Coast of South Africa lies one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in the world, the stunning Garden Route. With mountains and vineyards on one side, and rocky shores and sandy beaches on the other, the Garden Route waltzes into lists of the world’s best drives.

Travelers will spend five days in and around Cape Town, and visit the cultural heritage, sightseeing and scenery the Cape has to offer. The Cape Winelands offer a special treat of great wine-tastings and food-pairings, interesting architecture and some of the most exquisite nature scenery in the country.

From Cape Town, via Route 62 the group travels to Addo Elephant Park where you will go on a full-day safari. It is internationally known for its elephants but is also the home to the largest herds of disease-free buffalo in South Africa.

Itinerary

TUESDAY DAY 1

We welcome you with open arms and friendly smiles at Cape Town International airport. Welcome to South Africa! We will transport you to your hotel where you have the rest of the day free to explore the surrounding areas by foot or by taxi. Take time to rest and prepare for the next few days full of new activities.

WEDNESDAY DAY 2

Breakfast at your hotel. We leave the city and drive to Hout Bay and then on to Simon’s Town via Chapman’s Peak Drive, where you will have time to visit the African Jackass Penguins. (Penguin Colony – the Boulders Simon’s Town). You may be interested take a swim in the Ocean!

Lunch   After lunch we visit the Cape Point Nature Reserve, which includes beautiful sites such as the Cape Point Light House and the Cape of Good Hope.

Supper: Evening free. Go out on your own for supper at the V&A Waterfront.

THURSDAY DAY 3

Today we take the boat to Robben Island. It will be an emotional day since you will “experience” the atrocities of the previous Apartheid system of the Nationalist Government and the role that leaders like Nelson Mandela played to fight for the freedom of the South African people. We explore the island and join an ex-political prisoner that will show the group the former maximum-security prison and the tiny cell where Nelson Mandela spent his years of incarceration.

Lunch will be with Odwa Futshane (tour guide) at  Lelapa, a traditional restaurant in Langa. After lunch our guide will take us on a very insightful walking tour of the Langa township. You will get the opportunity to meet the people who live there and have a cappuccino in the first coffee shop in a black township.

FRIDAY DAY 4

Breakfast at your hotel

You have the morning and afternoon free to explore Cape Town and the V&A Waterfront on your own. There are so many options. One of the exciting possibilities is to take the Hop On Hop Off bus and visit famous Cape Town attractions.

Lunch (own account)  Evening: Pan-African cultural experience at GOLD Restaurant and an opportunity to learn to play the African drum.

SATURDAY DAY 5

After breakfast at your hotel we leave for Table Mountain and take the Cable Car (vernacular) to the top of the mountain and back. You will have at least an hour to breathe in the beautiful views and explore the hiking trails on top of the mountain.

Then it is time to visit the African Craft and Gift market at Greenmarket Square, where you can meet artists from different parts of Africa.

This afternoon we explore the world famous botanical gardens, Kirstenbosch, and Groot Constantia,   the very first wine farm in the Cape.

SUNDAY DAY 6

Breakfast at your guest house.

Today the group will explore one of the most beautiful regions in South Africa, namely the Cape Winelands. We will stop in the town of Franschhoek where you will get the opportunity to see the vineyards and visit the wine farms with the Franschhoek Wine Tram. This is truly a very exciting experience!

Our next stop is at the second oldest town in South Africa, Stellenbosch, where we learn more about the history and taste some of the best wines of the region.

MONDAY DAY 7

Breakfast at your guest house

Today’s drive takes us along the famous Route 62 towns to Oudtshoorn. Starting in one of the world’s great wine regions and ending in the sparse Karoo, Route 62 casts its gentle, captivating atmosphere on all who travel its roads.

Lunch and sight-seeing at Barrydale.

We stop at Ronnie’s Sex shop and taste some of the best South Africa port wine in Calitzdorp.

TUESDAY DAY 8

Breakfast at your guest house.

In Oudtshoorn we do the early morning Meerkats encounter with Shy Five Meerkats.

Afterwards we explore the Cango Caves. At the head of the picturesque Cango Valley, lie the spectacular underground wonder of the Klein Karoo – the Cango Caves.

If time permits, we will visit an Ostriches farm

Lunch.   Then we are on our way through an ever-changing landscape to Tsitsikamma National Park

WEDNESDAY DAY 9

Breakfast at your lodge.

Today you can explore all the exciting opportunities to indulge in the beauty of the Tsitsikamma area on your own. With Misty Mountain Reserve as our basis, there are several activities you can choose from: hiking routes (different lengths), quad bike journey in the forest, ziplining, golf and fly-fishing.

This is just a day of relaxing in nature.

THURSDAY DAY 10

Breakfast at your lodge.

Today we say good-bye to the wonderful Tsitsikamma land and drive to the Addo Elephant Park.

We stop at the Bloukrans Bridge for bunjee jumping from the highest bridge in the world (214m). Or you can do bridge walking if that sounds more exciting!

Lunch.   We visit Jeffrey’s Bay (one of the 7 best surfing spots in the world). Then it is off to our accommodation at the Addo Elephant Park

Accommodation: Dung Beetle River Lodge

The Sundays River flows at the foot of the lodge, offering sweeping river views from the lodge’s decks and a perfect backdrop to an all-South African experience of big five game viewing, river activities such as safe swimming, canoes, river cruises or fishing are offered.

FRIDAY DAY 11

Breakfast at your lodge.

Today we spend the whole day on a guided safari in the Addo Elephant Park. It is internationally known for its elephants but is also the home to the largest herds of disease-free Buffalo in South Africa. There are many other varieties of animals. It is one of the only big 7 parks in the world. The park is considered as one of the most scenic parks in South Africa.

The tour starts at Dung Beetle River Lodge. The tour through the Park is in a closed vehicle. Your qualified guide will take you around the 35 thousand hectares of this park, to find as many animals as the guide can.

SATURDAY DAY 12

THIS TOUR STARTS IN CAPE TOWN AND ENDS IN PORT ELIZABETH

We have to say our final goodbyes and wish you all a very safe journey with high hopes that you will return soon.

Our bus will take the whole group to the airport.

10:00 We drop you off at Port Elizabeth’s International Airport in Port Elizabeth for your connecting flights back to your home destination.
